Supporting Workplace Chaplaincy Mission across the UK

WCM UKLast month, Chic Lidstone (East Coast Area Organiser) took a trip to Derby to attend the Workplace Chaplaincy Missions UK (WCM UK) team leaders day.

WCM UK has 500 members, with 22 teams, spread across the UK.

There was a good representation of chaplains from across the UK and Chic feels that it is good to have a context and supportive network.  Everyone can learn from shared experiences.  This type of mutual supporting and resourcing network can’t be built so much by having data basis, but by meeting with people and getting to know each other.

As you can imagine, there was a lot of discussion during the day and some of the common themes across the group were:

©     Chaplaincy style is changing with more personal support being required in the workplace than has been seen before;

©     Businesses are appreciating the benefits workplace chaplaincy provides;

©     Communication and the most effective method;

©     There is always a need for more volunteers;

There was some discussion around having regional day events for volunteers to which all are invited.  This could possibly be arranged around significant speakers.

All in all, Chic felt that his trip to Derby was worthwhile and it was good to be there and connect with English colleagues.
