New Chairman for Work Place Chaplaincy Scotland

David LonsdaleWork Place Chaplaincy Scotland has announced David Lonsdale, Director of the Scottish Retail Consortium, as successor to chairman Andrew Milligan OBE.

WPCS provides pastoral and welfare support across Scotland to employees in around 2000 workplaces spanning all industry sectors, from shopping centres, industrial and financial services firms to council offices and fire stations.

Mr Lonsdale, until now deputy chairman, took over the role at the organisation’s Annual General Meeting held yesterday at SCDI’s offices in Glasgow.

Mr Milligan, Head of Global Strategy at Standard Life Investments, part of the Aberdeen Standard Life group, has served as chairman for the past 18 months.  He will remain a board trustee.

Working with the Board of Trustees and WPCS’s Chief Executive Rev Iain McFadzean, the new chairman will oversee the implementation of the organisation’s strategy.

WPCS’s Chief Executive Iain McFadzean said:  “The appointment of David, a long-standing trustee, as chairman will offer continuity and help oversee the implementation of the organisation’s plans.  I would like to pay enormous tribute to Andrew for his contribution as chairman over the past eighteen months and office-bearer before that, and for his continued support for WPCS.”

David Lonsdale is Director of the Scottish Retail Consortium and Head of Devolved Government Affairs for the British Retail Consortium.  He was Assistant Director at CBI Scotland for 8 years until 2013, and previously worked at the Scottish Chambers of Commerce, rising from Policy Officer to become Head of Policy & Public Affairs.  David’s responsibilities at the SRC/BRC involve representing and promoting the interests of the retail industry and member companies to government, policy makers and opinion formers on a wide range of public policy issues.  He is also a board member of the Scottish Tourism Alliance and he is a member of SCDI’s policy committee.

Andrew Milligan OBE is Head of Global Strategy at Standard Life Investments, the global fund manager. He is a Fellow and Council Member of the Society of Business Economists, as well as a member of Court of Heriot Watt University, a Board member of the Edinburgh Business School, a member of the Thomson Reuters Customer Advisory Board and advises several small charities.
