An article about inspirational hospice workers appeared in an edition of The Scottish Sun last week.
One of the workers interviewed was Steve Brown, who was an Intern with WPCS before he was appointed Chaplain at Ayrshire Hospice.
As chaplain of the Ayrshire Hospice he is determined to ensure love, peace and comfort for dying patients.
Steve says: “For me, being with someone in what seems like a hopeless situation for them is not always about religion. It’s more about their spirituality needing reframed.
“The dying haven’t died yet. There’s still life to be lived.
“And when that does come to be, I support the intensity of that situation.
“I’m here to listen, support, offer empathetic presence, as well as providing space for rituals and prayer. I also have the great privilege to be involved in organising and taking patients' funerals. I've got to know the family. Relationships have been built, and I've been looking after them. When the person dies, being asked to help with the funeral is a real honour. It's a real privilege to be included in something so sacred. I never take that for granted".
Steve also says: "Support is ongoing for the bereaved and there are counselling groups I am able to signpost for them".
